Welcome to Nsamizi Training Institute of Social Development
| 2011 GRADUATION REFLECTIONS |
As I reflect on this year ending, I am humbled at how much we have accomplished together from our founding as an In-service training centre in 1954 to now a comprehensive, tertiary Institution of National, Regional and International standing. Nsamizi Training Institute of Social Development (NTISD), has blazed the trail of providing competence based academic programmes to those who could not access degree programmes offered by the main public Universities. Today, the impact we have made on Uganda and continue to make is immeasurable. Our academic programmes are fast becoming one of the most competitive and our training programmes are the standards by which others are measured. Our graduates wherever are employed or self employed are role models. We are always proud of them! The last four (4) years have been filled with several academic success from continued excellence from our faculty to a renewed spirit. Together we have accomplished several projects. These include publishing two (2) International journals, we have carried several reviews to our training curricula so that they respond to national needs by providing the most needed critical skills for rapid and sustainable development of Ugandans. Its really gratifying to note that we continue to see many more Ugandans annually enrolling for the programmes that are attainable in our campuses. As we continue to work even more harder on enhancing our academic and training programmes, improving our infrastructure and promoting the work in which our faculty engage, the Nation stands to benefit. Our significant developments include infrastructural growth. We embarked on ambitious plans to enhance the teaching and learning environment and employee welfare. The Greening of the campus, the construction of the storied building with flashy sanitary facilities and its well planned compound, the sports facilities, the acquisition of brand new 4x4 Pajero Spot Wagon, procurement of books, Internet Connection, the maintenance of our three-phase generator to ensure uninterrupted power failure during the load shedding periods, the construction of The Centre for Social Justice done during this year (2011) among others. Worth mentioning about NTISD, our niche is training, Education and imparting skills for the social development sector. We have moved this modal of training to other sectors such the JLOS, where with The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) we shall be mainstreaming the Social Development Component into Justice Law and Order. The outcome of this is a post graduate Diploma in (Social Justice Law and Order) that will begin starting January, 2012. NTISD has offered 270 post graduate scholarships to JLOS Institutions in Uganda. Today, NTISD has transformed into a leading Social Development Institute in Uganda and our vision is to become a Centre of Excellence in the Region for cementing our training and education not only in Social Development but also in other related aspects such as Leadership, Public Administration and Management, Policy Analysis, Project Development, strong outreach programmes, consultancy and research. The key to our current success has been consistency of purpose and the resilience of our faculty and staff who have been able to provide customized educational approaches and the cultivation of a participant centred learning environment. NTISD has contributed to the national development effort by building the much needed skilled human resource/capacity development. All the above efforts have been achieved through careful planning to utilize optimally the internally generated revenue from fees paid by our Students. We are still excited about the opportunities that lie a head and the work we still have to accomplish. But together as an Academic Community, I am confident through collective effort and commitment we shall tackle the work a head with dynamism and dedication. I am eternally grateful to all faculty staff and management for their hard work in making this year’s activities measurable. I also wish to extend my sincere thanks to our Governing Council for their guidance in Policy for steering the Institute to great success. Furthermore, I thank our mother Ministry of Education and Sports for providing unwavering efforts in many ways that have enable the Institute to thrive. Finally I owe a debt of gratitude to The Netherlands Government through their Royal Dutch Embassy in Uganda for the invaluable support they have provided to the Institute. They have done this so far twice through two (2) successful projects that have transformed the capacity of faculty of the Institute and a huge financial contribution to the establishment of the Centre for Social Justice. The two projects are NPT and NICHE respectively. Thank you all for supporting NTISD in our quest to continue making impact on today’s Uganda and beyond. For GOD and My Country.
